Scalea Airport

Sponortesd17271540i6filh0erh7i:34it786fa i0l2I0f61 m6e0t8046 · On 03 March 2023, the Mayor of Scalea asked ENAC for the "forfeiture" of the management of the SCALEA AIRPORT -CIV- airfield, resulting in its DEFINITIVE CLOSURE. The structure, financed with public funds and aimed at territorial development, from that date no longer has a future, as evidently desired by the Administration of Scalea (owner body). The decision taken by the Municipality of Scalea inevitably entails the total restart of the structure, i.e. in the state before 2006, canceling all the start-ups made by those who, in 17 years, have looked after the asset on behalf of the Administration itself. We were certain, in fact, that the Municipal Administration really wanted to work in employing the Scalea airfield for a relaunch of the territory and the enlargement of the tourist season: something absolutely not demonstrated in the facts, .. on the contrary!!! Currently, the use of the structure is permitted only for state and military aircraft and, occasionally, for aircraft authorized by the Municipal Administration: that is, none, because the Municipality of Scalea is absolutely not structured to manage "traffic" and the " aircraft safety". We are sorry to inform, then, the citizens of Scalea, the Piloti friends, and those who used the structure for a holiday in the Calabrian territory through the Scalea Airport, that this is no longer possible. Also because, as was foreseeable, for a month already the Scalea Airport has been in a state of abandonment, by the Municipality (owner body) in terms of aesthetic care, cleaning, and surveillance, as well as in aeronautical safety, without even worrying of his dutiful care of the "res publica". Our operational number (0985.42155) at the airport is, however, available to anyone who needs information, aeronautical or otherwise, on the real operational situation. Pilots heading to Scalea can divert to SIBARI (fully operational and very welcoming airfield) or to Lamezia Terme (with all the inconveniences of an airport open to commercial traffic). However, the companies that manage the airport support activities (handling, coordination, and incooming) are still present at the airport, but cannot offer and receive private flights, since the "Public Utility" of the structure has lapsed at the behest of the Municipality of Scalea, which owning body. WE ARE SORRY FOR THE BAD NEWS ABOUT THE CLOSURE, but this has also reached us as "a bolt from the blue", without even being able to understand what could be the absurd reasons that led the local administration to want to "cancel" (in mandatory manner!) over 17 years of startup!!! In any case, we wish all the pilots "good flights" at the nearby fields and, when they pass over Scalea, to contact us on 128.450MHz for a frequency "greeting"!!!!!!!!

FOR SMALL AIRCRAFT IT IS POSSIBLE TO REQUEST THE TEMPORARY OPENING 3/4 DAYS BEFORE ARRIVAL. ONLY THE PASSENGER AIRPORT IS CLOSED AND NOT THE RUNWAY!
